Come watch a LIVE recording of “In Process” and enjoy a great conversation with Annette Loiselle and Cindy Paul as they share insight into their process of curating artists and showcasing diverse talent from around Alberta and beyond as part of the SkirtsAFire! Festival.

Come for a night of great conversation, laughs and come learn more about this amazing festival, which celebrates artistic expression in many forms!

 

About SkirtsAFire:

– SkirtsAfire is Edmonton’s theatre and multidisciplinary arts festival featuring the work of women! In conjunction with International Women’s Day, our 11 day programming runs each March at various venues in Old Strathcona. We present powerful and insightful stories to a diverse audience that is hungry to be moved by passionate performances and exhibitions. Programming reflects the true diversity of the thriving arts community in Alberta and Canada, and is adaptive in its approach in order to remain responsive to the needs of artists and audiences.

 

SkirtsAfire Festival values diversity in the artists we represent and therefore welcomes artists of all diverse backgrounds, including cis and trans women, non-binary people, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and artists of all ethnicities and all abilities.

 

About Annette Loiselle:

– Annette is an actor, director, teacher, producer and writer who has made Edmonton her home base for over 30 years working in theatre. She is currently the Artistic Director and 2012 co-founder of SkirtsAfire. Annette is also one of the founders of and 25-year Artistic Associate of Edmonton’s much beloved, Freewill Shakespeare Festival. She is passionately committed to bringing audience and artists together and making multiple art forms more accessible. Over the years, she has been acknowledged with the following awards:

• Top 3 finalist for a Christopher Plummer Award of Excellence recognizing her work with Shakespeare

• A 2019 Global Woman of Vision Award

• Sterling Award for Outstanding Independent Production for The Blue Hour which she produced with SkirtsAfire and directed pre-pandemic 2020

• Most recently, a 2022 Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal to recognize her work serving the community

 

About Cindy Paul:

– Cindy Paul is an established producer, songwriter, recording artist and educator and advocate for health and healing through natural therapies, music, art and cultural teachings. Her albums captured many nominations from New York’s Native American Music, the Canadian Folk Music Awards and many more. She loves to share her messages of hope through her music and uses her voice for many causes that she believes in. Her original composition “He Can Fancy Dance” is internationally recognized for residential school education and cultural awareness. Cindy has maintained her life working in community wellness incorporating her love for the arts and natural health into healing arts workshops and facilitates music production, song writing and visual art workshops across Canada with Indigenous focused youth organizations such as Inpath, DareArts Roots, VIDEA and Artscan Circle. Cindy is deeply connected to her Cree/Metis roots and it shines through in every breath and beat of her original compositions.

Accessibility

The Playhouse, is fully accessible to wheelchairs and includes an accessible washroom. ASL interpretation will also be available for the event!

Conversations with artistic leaders exploring their beginnings to their inspirations, our guests each bring a different perspective of what it means to be in process. Join our host Andrés Moreno as they sit with our amazing guests to talk about food, guilty pleasures, philosophy, identity, and joy.
