Kate Ryan

BIO

Kate Ryan (she/her/hers) is a director, educator, and actor who lives on Treaty 6 Territory. Her performing credits include Fun Home (Plain Jane Theatre); Mary Poppins, Measure for Measure and 13 seasons of A Christmas Carol (Citadel Theatre); The Light in the Piazza, Mary Poppins (Theatre Calgary); 9 to 5, Oklahoma, and The Sound of Music (Mayfield Theatre). Kate has taught acting with Citadel Theatre’s Young Company and Foote Theatre School, University of Alberta’s Opera Program, Edmonton Opera and MacEwan University’s Theatre Arts program. Kate’s directing credits include All Shook Up, Jesus Christ Superstar, Forever Plaid, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change (Mayfield Theatre); Cinderella (Capitol Theatre); Assassins, The Drowsy Chaperone (Citadel’s Young Company); Into the Woods and The Drowsy Chaperone (MacEwan University); The Magic Flute and L’Elisir D’Amore (University of Alberta Opera Program). Kate also co-created the musical theatre company Plain Jane Theatre and has produced and directed over 20 musical and revue productions including Ah, Romance!, Crescendo, Working, A New Brain, It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Superman, Drat! The Cat!, Mack and Mabel and Bells are Ringing.

She has also staged for DaCamera Singers (The Reluctant Dragon), Edmonton Opera’s Valentine’s Gala and The Edmonton Sterling Theatre Awards. Kate is also very honoured to be the 2019 recipient of the Michelle Dias Community Service Award.
