where the tide meets the stream

Produced by Christianne Ullmark in collaboration with Tia Ashley Kushniruk 亚 女弟

The presentation of this work is directly related to the process of its remounted creation. By this I really mean that all that is ‘unseen’ – collaborative history, memories, language, and so on – ‘now’ becomes ‘seen’ through the lens of the physical effort employed by moving objects through space. We will witness the performer in states of contemplation, problem solving, surrender, and suspension, as she allows the objects belonging to the physical world to take her on a journey to the “fifth dimension”.

What Is the Inspiration For Your Piece?

(The seed of inspiration)

Initially inspired by time travel and parallel dimensions, the work has ironically shaped itself in relation to the possibilities of challenging, while also existing in harmony with, the rules of the physical world – how do we move forward, how do we expand, while also making space to turn back into ourselves? I am interested and motivated by Zen philosophy, and this work could be seen as an investigation into a state of expanded consciousness.

What Point In Process Is Your Piece At?

(What stage of growth is your piece at, sapling, sprout, tree, shrub, whatever you feel)

What began as an attempt to remount an existing work, quickly shifted into the development of something new. That being said, I question what “new” actually implies. It is new, in that it looks different than the original, but similar by way of its philosophy. I would say that right now this work is at a stage of re-envisioning and re-framing possibility, while also at a stage of defining and naming the deeper and more complex contours of the work that have been revealed in the attempted process of a remount.
