Tune to A

Tune to A is a brand new play for young audiences. Ava is a 13-year-old with cerebral palsy and a love of music. After a series of attempts to play several instruments, Ava’s contributions to band class are dismissed by her teacher, Mr. B. Meanwhile, her new BFF Jordan is working hard to be the most perfect ally possible. Will their connection help Ava find her voice for when she needs it most? Find out in this tale of music, friendship, and finding new ways to support our friends with different needs from our own.

What Is the Inspiration For Your Piece?

(The seed of inspiration)

Tune to A is a play for young audiences about seeing past others’ limitations to illuminate their potential. The story was inspired by co-creator and performer Carly Neis’ real life; specifically growing up with cerebral palsy and her experiences in the theatre community and public school system. We want this play to inspire able-bodied audiences to think beyond trying to fit disabled bodies into our moulds, and instead work to make new moulds when the old ones aren’t working.

What Point In Process Is Your Piece At?

This is the World Premiere of Tune to A. It has been developed through various script, music, and production workshops since 2019, with support from Bad Hats Theatre, Blarney Productions, and the Citadel Theatre.
